Who needs weekends when you can have Mondays? In Ibiza the week started once again with a fantastic Cocoon party at Amnesia, with head honcho Sven Väth playing along his special guests Loco Dice, Marcel Dettmann and the guys from the Innervision label Dixon and Amê.
The excellent, all German line-up combined with the very international crowd made for an amazing vibe from early on. A steady trickle of clubbers, many coming over from DC10’s Circoloco, others still fresh, made sure that by 2am the terrace floor was in full swing with the deep and often rather slow sound of Dixon.
The sophisticated September crowd made the effort to let it in and was rewarded with goose-bumps when Dixon created fierce hands-in-the-air moments. It was one of those sets which can be understood best in retrospective when suddenly all comes together and makes perfect sense. Dixon certainly knows how to create an intriguing mood.
The terrace was to remain in the firm clutches of Innervision as Dixon’s fellow label colleague Amê took over. Originally a duo, the two sometimes divide their DJ duties: While Kristian played with Solomun a few weeks ago at Pacha, this time at Amnesia the other half of Âme, Frank Wiedemann, played alone. Think deep and sexy sounds with atmospheric vocals and a groove that has become rather iconic for the duo.
In an atmosphere like this, a professional like Loco Dice had it easy to pick up from where Amê left and he boldly steered the dance floor into the sun-lit morning hours.
Meanwhile in the main room Marcel Dettmann played a stomping four hour “warm up” for Sven Väth. His industrial, stripped down and chugging style was not for everyone but as this kind of techno has become rare in Ibiza the floor was full of up-for-it aficionados of the genre.
Sven then started with a more organic and more diverse techno sound, playing one of his best sets of the season so far until far into the Tuesday morning.
Seeing him play at the Space Discoteca for his friend Hawtin or on the Amnesia terrace was all very nice and special, but we can’t help thinking that the true Ibiza home of Väth is the dark main room of Amnesia.
This is the place where he excels at creating unforgettable, intense moments that you’ll never forget.
The Ibiza summer season 2013 will see one more opportunity to get Sven in the main room: Don’t miss the Cocoon Closing Party on September 30th.
