Don’t believe the hype, they say. Well, believe the hype! This party is the real deal. If you care only a little bit for underground sounds – this is the party to go to this summer. And not only musically.
The sheer production of this night alone is insane. How Richie Hawtin redesigns Space nightclub for his purposes is jaw dropping. Take the sunset terrace for instance which is turned into a genuine Japanese Sake bar for Thursdays.
Apart from small items like bamboo here and there, lampshades and pieces of decoration there is a huge wooden frame with decorative ropes suspended from the ceiling and hanging over the greater part of the dance floor.
All this effort just to create a peculiar atmosphere. “We hope that people go on a journey, going from one room to another, experiencing different DJs, experiencing different lightings and décor”, Richie tells us, “and hopefully they’ll be walking away with an experience that is unlike anything else on the island.”
After shelling out incredibly fair 15 Euros when arriving before 10pm, you got to see a concentrated Richie Hawtin behind the decks from 10.30, playing a fantastic warm up somewhere between house and lighter techno with lots of Minus and Plus8 records.
There should be more parties where the headliner is not stacked away at the very latest hour of the party. The Sake Bar will give you the opportunity to listen to real superstars of the scene as a start into the club night which makes for an appreciated change.
ENTER. is a family, as Richie always points out, so unsurprisingly his proud parents and long-time friends like Sven Väth were mingling with the crowd. Combined with an exotic menu of Sake-fuelled cocktails this made for happy faces all around.
With the ‘Microdot’ cocktail though don’t ask a waiter for a straw because you think they forgot it. This particular cocktail comes deliberately without a straw which makes perfect sense when you drink it – you’ll see!
After the warm up all other four rooms opened from midnight. ENTER.Main catered for full on techno freaks with Paco Osuna, Gaiser live and Richie’s main set from 3.30am. Again we can’t imagine how long it must take the brave Space workers to put up the huge decoration and special lighting every Thursday and take it off a few hours later.
Biggest eye catchers were two large turbines on the stage right and left of the DJ. Paco Osuna as new resident this season prepared the grounds for Gaiser’s typically minimal live performance. After that the host of the night himself made full use of all the newly brought-in production.
As good as the main room was, we found the terrace the place to be this night. The sound was spot on and on the very dark side of house music, especially later on with Tale of Us.
The duo was not afraid to bring in deeper and techier stuff for an up-for-it crowd. Hot since 82 had already prepared them with probably the most melodic set of the night after which Barem took punters on a journey through new trends in house music. Man, this was cutting edge!
ENTER. should be about having experiences first hand. That is the reason why we won’t tell you too much about the brand new ENTER.Mind floor which is a dark cave at the back of Space where El Salon normally is.
Let’s just say it is one of the weirdest things you’ll ever come across in a club, probably comparable to being in your mother’s womb while she is at a crazy rave. But see for yourself!
“I don’t think I’ll have any fingernails left by tomorrow”, was what Hawtin twittered the night before his opening.
Finally, the hard work and nervous anticipation by the whole team paid off and the ENTER. season II in Ibiza this summer is going to blow your mind.
ENTER. runs every Thursday until 26.09.2013 at Space Ibiza. Check out all dates & line-ups in our calendar!
