The strength of a party’s line-up is first and foremost always a matter of taste. The most expensive DJs or the ones with the longest careers mean nothing when you just don’t dig their sound!
Having said that, the accumulation of class and also the diversity of sounds this last Sunday at Space must have made it at least one of the best line-ups of the We Love season 2013. It was a great night thanks to Joris Voorn, James Zabiela, Marco Bailey, Technasia, Deetron and Kölsch.
It’s almost a crime not to start a Sundays session at Space with the sunset terrace BEFORE midnight. The “terrace whisperer” Jonathan Ulysses took care of proceedings from 10.30 pm and easily evoked this special old-school open air feeling from Space of yore when we used to party in the morning sun.
It’s good to see that Ulysses never really changed his sound dramatically, playing vocal house just like it used to be before it got mangled by electro. The closing track being a remix of Red Carpet’s “Alright” will give you the right feeling about Ulysses’ set and the atmosphere on the sunset terrace.
On to Kölsch, who was not to be envied when he started on an almost empty covered terrace and had to build a party from scratch. It said a lot about the class of this fairly new artist that about an hour later, due to his great live performance, the terrace had filled and was in full party mood.
After his classic “Loreley” and tracks from his new album (“Goldfisch” and “Zig”, for instance) Kölsch released his last season smasher “All that matters” on a euphoric terrace. This party was on!
Deetron then took over with lots of Latin flavoured house sounds, accompanied by warm drums and the occasional vocals. All very danceable, yet maybe a bit inconsistent and aimless for the first 30 minutes. The discoteca at that point was in the firm hands of Technasia and received a true techno treatment with organic beats that never got boring. Technasia offers probably the most accessible techno sets for newbies without getting uninteresting for experienced friends of the scene.
We loved it and were having fun so our story becomes a bit blurry from there. Joris Voorn contributed his share to that with a blissful set of tech-house, forward and melodic. Dropping “The Tide” and then closing with a wonderful deeper tune he left the terrace in the experienced hands of We Love legend James Zabiela to close the Sunday.
One of the most underrated artists in the Ibiza scene, you should definitely check him out and experience the Zabiela way of djing. By playing Maya Jane Cole’s “Everything” mid-set he probably created THE Ibiza moment for hundreds of clubbers that night.
And we can’t forget El Salon! Hosted by Lo Cura Lounge it was a great space to hang out and chill with friends. Daisy Heartbreaker and David Phillips on the decks catered for some true balearic sounds until breakfast time..
We Love Space this year has great line-ups and with Joris Voorn, James Zabiela, Technasia, Deetron and Jonathan Ulysses all returning for more dates you can have your fair share of the fun we had last Sunday.
